Vice Admiral McFadden asks to meet NLCC Ark Royal in the HMCS Ville De Quebec Commanding Officers Quarters/August 2009

It has been a busy couple of months with extra practice and our regular Parade nights, getting ready for our Competitions. We are still in practice mode to be ready to compete in our up-coming Provincial Competition in Trenton on the April 17/18 weekend. At our Regional we took 1st in Seamanship and took 1st again in Semaphore and so these teams go forward to compete Provincially. Although we took a 2nd in First Aid, our whole ship still consider a first! Bravo Zulu to all the cadets, the officers, branch members and the parents who have been dedicating their time to get the cadets to everything. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Other news of the past few months: NLCC Ark Royal was invited to join RCSCC Vanguards regular parade night in February.

Happy New Year!

A busy year ahead for everyone. It is sad that we lost 4 of our troops and a canadian reporter that gave so much in their belief of our country and our values. Those that could make it came out to honour their return at the coroners office. It was a solemn occassion too be sure and a mightily cold and bitter day. In roaring winds of -20 and constant snow our cadets and officers stood in slush puddles to honour and welcome them home.

Warriors Day Parade was a great day and the weather held. Thank you everyone for coming out to support this event.

Operation Triple T was a success! NLCC Ark Royal invited NLCC Timmins to come to Toronto for a 4 day trip that included Medieval Times, Old Fort York, Toronto Blue Jays game, swimming at the beach and sailing.

2009 Annual Review was a success! Thanks to all parents, branch members and attendees for your dedication!

NLCC ARK ROYAL's Semaphore Team wins silver medals at Provincials 2009!

Thank you to all parents/volunteers/officers for assistance provided to bring together the weekend.
2008 Annual Review: Wow! The deck was standing room only! The Cadets and Officers were great and got the job done! Our Reviewing Officer, MPP, Micheal Prue was impressed with our youth and program. We thank him for accepting our invitation and allowing us the opportunity to show him his communities Corps at it's best. Thank you to the attending Navy League Rep, Ms. Barbe Peace. Thank you to LCdr (NL) Mulhall our Inspecting Officer.

Thank you too, all parents and people who assisted in getting things set-up and torn-down. A special thanks to RCSCC Vanguard and their Commanding Officer, Lt. (N) Paul Simas for coming out and helping at/to our Annual Review.

It has been a long year for everyone and the dedication put in by many was clearly evident at Annual and in the Programme Events section. Bravo Zulu to all!!! And now, it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. It's time to enjoy and sail! sail! sail!

Thank you everyone for your support, encouragement and dedication.

Sincerely, Shawn Goodwin, Pres/Tor East Br. & Lt. (NL) Mary-Ann Saffier, Commanding Officer/NLCC Ark Royal

Provincial Competition: April 25, 26, 27th weekend in Trenton was quite the experience for our cadets! From a rainy drive up to a sunny weekend and ice cream! Girls dorms/Boys dorms full of cadets from all over Ontario. Everyone made new friends and cheered on other teams in our Squadron. Our Semaphore Team was awesome!!! We took Silver based on time as we tied for First Place. Happy, grinning faces all around.

Jefferies Squadron Competitions Pt 1 and 2: Drill without, Drill with and First Aid were first up and we placed 2nd in Drill without, had no Drill with and 3rd in First Aid. Part 2: Seamanship and Semaphore were 2nd and finished off the Regional Competition with Seamanship 2nd place and Semaphore a 1st place finish.

Now it's off to the Ontario Provincial Competition with the 1st Place Semaphore team who will represent Jefferies Squadron with pride! Go! Team Go!

Labour Day Weekend NLCC Enterprise joined together with NLCC Ark Royal for a Fun Day of Sailing!!! It was resounding success!! Everyone had fun..it looks like the future may hold more of the same! Great Job all!!

Toronto East Branch applied for a grant to purchase sailboats. The Ontario Trillium Foundation approved our application!

This grant not only started us on our 'waterway' to success, but enabled many more cadets to get out on the water, faster! There is still work to do, but we have taken key steps to getting there!

We are sad to report that William J. F. Hedley "passed the bar" peacefully on 29 February 2008 at Toronto East General Hospital. Mr. Hedley was a long-time volunteer and a staunch supporter of Navy League Cadets. He held many positions in his time with us and is remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Donations can be made, in memory of Mr. Hedley, to the Navy League of Canada (Ontario Division).
